Question of the Moment 5

If you could pick one character from any story to become real and be your best friend who would it be and why?

Mine would have to be Jonsey from the book i just finished, Death Whispers. I dont think its cause i just finished and really liked it, but i think its cause jonsey is a lot like me. Jonsey always has these crazy, bad ideas that his friends really dont want to do, but he talks them into doing them anyways. I was just like this when i was younger. I always had bad ideas that would get us all in trouble and would talk my friends into doing them anyways. Jonsey would be so fun to hang out with.

BBReview: "Death 1: Death Whispers" By Tamara Rose Blodgett

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal/Science Fiction
Publishing Date: April 1st, 2011
Page Count: 367
Source: Won
Format: E-Book

Description from Amazon:
Almost fifteen-year-old Caleb Hart is a Cadaver-Manipulator in the year 2025.

When teens receive a government-sanctioned pharmaceutical cocktail during school, paranormal abilities begin manifesting... making the teens more powerful than the adults.

After Caleb discovers he has the rare, Affinity for the Dead, he must do whatever it takes to hide it from a super-secret government agency whose goal is exploitation.

Caleb seeks refuge in his new girlfriend, Jade, until he realizes that she needs as much protection from her family, as he does from the government.

Suddenly, Caleb finds that hiding his ability while protecting Jade and his friends is a full time job; can he escape the government, protect Jade and lose the bullies that are making him miserable?

Review:
Tamara Rose Blodgett's first novel in the Death Whispers series is pretty amazing. It is very different then what most readers are used to in a YA paranormal. The first thing that you will notice that is out of the norm is that the narrator and main character is not a girl. It is a 13 year old boy named Caleb. I dont think i have read a book that is completely narrated by a male, main character. It was definitely different, but i liked it. I also liked that he was only 13. It does make some of the "normal" life situations seem not so bad if you are older, and you may not be used to the ways the boys talk with profanity and immaturity, but i liked it. I thought it was just right for someone his age. I also liked that when he talked about Jade, his girlfriend, or his hot teacher that there wasn't any disrespectful language like you would expect from boys. Yes there was talk about the teacher and her cleavage, but nothing to make a girl gag or get upset about it. There was a good balance. I also liked that Blodgett didn't make Caleb act older than he was. He acted like a normal 13 year old. There wasn't any situations that he couldnt handle at that age. The only thing that i felt was a little too mature for him was his love for Jade. I think it would have been more believeable if he was a highschooler, but i dont know if middle schoolers have enough love to want to protect their girlfriend's life.

Another thing you will notice is that the book doesnt revolve around love or finding out if paranormals exist. It revolves around a boy finding out which kind of paranormal he is and how to hide his abilities from the government. Paranormal abilities is something that is normal. Everybody is waiting to find out what they are, either a type of paranormal or a mundane (a normal human). Most YA Paranormals are about finding the paranormal guy and learning to understand what he is and falling in love with him. This book had all that but then had an actual story along with it. It was definitely something i could learn to love. The third thing that is very different, at least to me is that this is set in 2025, i havent read a book that is specifically set into the future, and Blodgett does an amazing job with writing a futuristic paranormal. She is very consistent in her technology and never slips up. In this future there is something called pulse technology where you control everything with your thumb and brain. I thought it was amazing. I loved reading about it and only wished that this type of technology existed now. This series is definitely somethig new and different.

Overall:
I thought this was a great book. The beginning was slow at first and it takes a couple chapters, at least for me, to get into it, but once it got good it never stopped being good. There are few grammar errors, and phrases that may have been mispelled or put in the wrong order, but it was comical. The characters were really well thought through, and each one had their own personality. You could tell why they would get along, or not, but they were each individuals. The characters banter back and forth alone made up for the few mispelled phrase. I cannot wait for the second installment to come out, this is going to be a great series. It keeps your heart pumping and keeps you turning the pages. If you were one of my friends and i told you to read this and you were unsure about it, i would beg you to give it a chance, thats how good it is.

Follow Friday

This weeks Follow Friday Question:
How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read, or listen to them?

I usually only read 1-2 books a week. It seems like a pretty weak number, but im very busy with college and sorority life so i only have a small amount of time to read. I usually read in either bound (hardcover or paperback) or e-book. I love e-books, because i can take them anywhere and have tons of books with me at all times that take up no room, but i really love a good old hard cover. I dont know why i love hardcover over paperbacks, but i do. I am thinking about checking out audiobooks in my near future though. Whats you're experience with them?

BBReview: "The Vampire Diaries 4: Dark Reunion" By L.J. Smith

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal
Publishing Date: December 26th, 2007
Page Count: 520
Source: Bought from local bookstore
Format: Paperback

Description from Amazon :
Elena: Transformed, the golden girl has become what she once feared and desired.
Stefan: Tormented by losing Elena, he's determined to end his feud with Damon once and for all--whatever the cost. But slowly he begins to realize that his brother is not his only enemy.
Damon: At last, he possesses Elena. But will his thirst for revenge against Stefan poison his triumph? Or can they come together to face one final battle?

Review:
The fourth book in this series, Dark Reunion, is told in Elena's friend Bonnie's perspective, for reasons told in book three. I really liked this change in narration, i usually do though. I love when books tell more than one point of view, it shows you how genuine the story is and how it effects everyone. I remember when i first started this series, as you know i did read the first 3  books a couple years ago and never picked them up until i recently started re-reading them, that when i got to this book i read the first chapter and stopped there. I didnt understand where the story would go after book three, and thought maybe a romance would happen between a certain guy and bonnie and was not happy about it so i just stopped there. Im really glad that that premonition wasnt true. It was really good and im glad i got to see Bonnie grow as a person and as a witch. I also really enjoyed her diary entries. I thought that this book was thought through really well.

WARNING: This portion of the review will have spoilers. I loved seeing how Bonnie handled things. You could tell in the other books that she was a very fragile girl, especially now having all this weight on your shoulders, because you can do things that no one else can. Im also really glad that this book was clearly Bonnie's perspective and not something that could be passed off as Elena's perspective. You could tell that these were things that Elena might not do, or even think of. The only thing that i didnt really like was when Bonnie offers her blood to Stefan. I felt like that was taboo. Other than that part though i really liked it, and i feel like something is either going to happen with her and matt or her and Damon.

Overall:
This was such a good fourth installment. I especially loved the ending. I cannot wait to read the next book, because i have no idea whos perspective it will be in. This series really does stay true to its initial plot. What i mean is it isnt a book that is scattered and can go anywhere at any point. You can see the growth of each of the characters and see them changing and growing, and it isnt sudden changes, you can actually see them develop over time. You can even see the development of events happening. This series is really well written and im going to be really sad when i get to the 7th book, because thats when the new author takes over the series, and i have no idea what is going to happen.

Question of the Moment 3

Hey everyone!!

So i am currently on a cruise headed to Alaska!!! I know how awesome right? Well i am on the cruise with my grandparents and im only 19 so there isn't a lot of things that interest me here, and im also very shy, so it isn't like im making a butt load of friends, so when im bored i just end up reading, but i feel like im putting in work reading. And by putting in work i mean that i find it very challenging to read here for some reason, even when i start to get into the story i feel so tired and bored of it. So FINALLY here is my question!!

Do you find it hard to read while on vacation? And why do you think it is or isn't hard for you?

Leave a comment below to let me know how you're experience is on vacation and why you think its like that for you.

Question of the Moment 2

What are you currently reading? And so far how are you feeling about it?

Comment Below and let me know =]

My current read is Vampire Diaries 4: Dark Return, i havent started it yet so i have no current feelings. My premonitions for the book though are that it is going to be good, since the last two were really good. I also feel that there are going to be a bunch of surprises, because i started reading vampire diaries awhile ago before i started reading twilight (i stopped to gush over twilight) and i stopped at this book so i know NOTHING about this one. I cant wait!!

Review:
The third book in this series was so far the best book. I think they will continue to only get better with each book, because it seems like each newer book Smith is learning what to do and what works and what sounds good. There are 7 books out right now, but there is going to be 10, as far as i know, total. I am worried about books 8-10, because its rumored that LJ Smith has been fired from writing them and that the ghost author who will be finishing the series will still be using her name. I know it sounds confusing and youre probably saying to yourself "how can that happen?" but if you google it there is a "supposed" letter from lj herself that tells you everything. I have no idea if its true or not, but it seems a little legit, but ill keep looking into it.

Back to the review on this book. There may be a little bit of spoilers if you arent this far in the series, but nothing to ruin the story, but becareful. If you want to be more careful just move onto the conclusion =]. Anyways i think that the way Smith describes Elena's transformation is flawless. I really like how Smith decided it would go. Most vampire books describe it as painful or that everything just goes back to normal, like the person transforming just wakes up and is the same. I also like the way Elena dealt with being vampire and not being able to go back to regular life. It was so tough to read her sadness, especially when she goes back to house and goes to see Matt. The end is really good, but i hope that doesnt stay that way through the rest of the books, because what could happen the books revolved around that. done with possible spoilers. I honestly couldnt put this book down. The first day i only read 4 chapters, and then today when i decided to read more finally, i read the rest of the 12 chapters that were left. It really does get good after the first 6 chapters id say.

Overall:
I really loved this book. It kept you reading to see how Elena was going to cope with everything and what was going to happen in the end. Its amazing how the end turns out, i never saw that coming and once Elena puts things together you do at the same time and ask yourself, just like she did, how you never saw that. Id recommend this to everyone whos likes vampires.

BBReview: "The Vampire Diaries 2: The Struggle" By L.J. Smith

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal
Publishing Date: June 26th, 2007
Page Count: 500
Source: Bought from local bookstore
Format: Paperback

Description from Amazon :
A deadly love triangle
Elena: beautiful and popular, the girl who can have any guy she wants.
Stefan: brooding and mysterious, desperately trying to resist his desire for Elena... for her own good.
Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him.
Elens finds herself drawn to both brothers... who will she choose?

Review:
In the second installment of L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries series, The Struggle, the amount of emotions and character development is pretty amazing. This was such a good book, and such a fast read. Once i got into it i couldnt put it down. The second book is a thousand times better than the first. You can tell that L.J. Smith finally got into her groove and knew what she was doing in this book. The love stuggle is so amazing and believeable, you really connect with Elena and feel her stuggles. The only thing that drove me nuts in this book was Elena's lies and betrayals to Stefan. I cant stand when someone is dishonest, especially to their significant other. I had this same problem when reading "New Moon" in the Twilight saga. Betrayal is never ok, no matter what forces are acting against you, its not ok.

Besides that, it was really good. I love how much Stefan cares for her, but is so private about it. I love that he isnt showing it off to the world, and just keeping it for themselves. Even though i hate what Damon stands for i love his character. L.J. Smith did an amazing job on devoloping his character, it really is flawless. He is the perfect image of the deadly handsome bad boy. I hate what hes doing, but i love the character.

Overall:

This was an amzing book. I would high recommend this series to everyone who is into the ya paranormal genre. I know that this series is pretty old, and i did read it a long time ago, but never finished it and now its too long to remember what happened in the books i did read so bare with me if you have already read this series. If you didnt like the first book, i highly suggest reading the second book and then set your opinion on it, because it blow the first one out of the water.

Review:
Vampire Diaries is a really good and easy read, It really does go by really fast. The storyline and plot are also really good and it makes you wonder where L.J. Smith gets her idea and inspirations from. Although there is a tv series based on the books the show and book are almost completely different. They do have similarities, but if you watch the show that doesnt mean you know what happens in the books. The show has taken on a mind of its own so when you read the book you while watching the show you shouldnt have too many spoilers and wont get them confused. This is kind of a bad thing, because then its hard to remember what happened in the books if you take a hiatus from reading and just watch the show, and vice versa. They really are that different. I read this book a long time ago and was so excited that they were making a show out of it, but when i watched it i was so disappointed only because of how much they altered it. Now that i have been watching for awhile im glad that they changed it, because then they wont ruin what the readers imagined in their heads.

The only bad thing about the book was the transitions through time. L.J. Smith didnt really do well with going from a crush to full blown love, she kinda just made it happen over night, but overall the book was good. I think if i hadn't already read the book before that the ending would have blown me away. It is a really big cliff hanger, and i know when i did read it the first time that i had to keep going onto the second book right after .

Overall:
This was a really good book. It did have a few moments when i was really mad at L.J. Smith for making certain things happen because it made no sense to me, as far as character development, and there are some bad transitions, but overall it is a really fast and easy read. The book as a whole flows smoothly and is cohesive and it is definitely a  page turner. You probably wont be able to put this down once you start. I know i usually make goals while reading, like ill only read to chapter 5 and then go to bed, but i always went past my goals and read till i was too tired.
