Week #4 Questions

1. At a certain moment, Echo tells Noah that she feels safe with him. Echo thinks that because of this comforting feeling, she may be able to finally have a full night of peaceful sleep. Why do you think it is important for Echo to feel Safe? and why no one else but Noah has been able to provide this to Echo?
Since Echo can't remember and everyone around her does she feels smaller to them. She feels like they are hiding and hindering her, personally, so she can't feel safe, because they won't tell her what is making her have this nightmares in the first place. They leave her on her own and she doesn't want to ask them for help for anything else. I think Noah makes her feel safe, because he is the one person who has no clue about what happened that night and he loves her anyway. He isn't afraid to touch her, isn't afraid of her scars showing, and he truly cares about her. I think she knows deep down that he loves her even though he hasn't said it yet and that he would do anything for her so she feels safe.

2. Beth, Noah's friend, also has a very complex life situation. Plus she also does drugs. However, what grabs my attention is her mean behavior towards Echo. Why do you think Beth hates/dislikes Echo so much?
I think Beth doesn't like Echo so much, because Echo is everything Beth wants. Beth has had a messed up life, but there isn't some hot guy to rescue her. To Beth there isn't anyone there for her, but when Beth looks at Echo she sees that she has a dad, step mom, counselor, Noah, friends, and the whole school pays attention to her even if it is in a negative light. The school doesn't pay attention to Beth at all. I think she just feels envious and plus she never knew what happened to Echo so she thinks its all some deliberate act to get attention.

3. At some point, we finally get to know how Noah's parents dies at the fire and how it started. Unfortunately, this is something that has happened before. What tips to avoid a fire (specially when there are kids at home) do you know about? List a few! Recommendations to avoid tragedies are very valuable. =)
Keep all lighters and matches high up in a spot where kids can't reach them or get to them.
Explain the dangers of fires when they get out of control.
Explain why an adult needs to be present every time fire is around, not to hinder them, but to double check nothing goes wrong.
Explain to them that even though you (the adult) may use them for everyday things that it doesn't mean fire is any safer. Every time it is a risk when being around it.
Teach your kids how to use a fire extinguisher, keep small ones around the house.

4. Echo finally discovers more about what really happened to her the day she got her scars at her mother's place. Unfortunately, this also involved Echo's father and Ashley. What do you think about them and to what point do you think it makes them responsible to what happened to Echo?
Ashley I don't really blame. I doubt she meant anything deliberately, but I also think she is too immature for the situation at hand. She hasn't raised a child yet so she really doesn't know what it is truly like to be a parent so I think in her mind letting Echo wait a little longer for her dad to have some fun wasn't a big deal. Her dad, on the other hand, I have no idea what he was thinking. He knows his ex wife can be unstable and when you don't check on her before leaving your daughter there unattended and then when she calls you don't answer? I don't know I just don't honestly know what would keep him from answering. I bet he truly feels terrible, though. I think he feels like he has failed as a parent, but I think Ashley hasn't blamed herself for anything, because I think she has been too busy dealing with Echo's dads guilt. It also explains why they acted like they didn't want Echo to find out the truth of what happened that day.

5. On pg. 303 (from arc) Echo said to Noah: "I love you... you love your brothers more. I'm okay with that. In fact, it's one of the things I love about you. You were right the other day. I do want to be part of a family. But I'd never forgive myself if I was the reason you didn't get yours... I love you enough to never make you choose." What do you think of Echo's decision to break up with Noah? What does it mean to you?
I think it was honestly really hard for Echo. She loves Noah, but she doesn't want to be the reason he doesn't get his brothers. She knows how the judge turned her mom away from getting any custody and she knows they will do the same to Noah if she is with him. I think she may also feel like Ashley. She doesn't want to replace the boys mother and she doesn't want to be just some unstable girl in Noah's life. I think Echo is making the right decision for now until she can remember and until she find out if she is bipolar or not, but I also wish they could just be together. I think they are perfect together and that maybe Noah should realize the people his brothers are with are perfect for them. He needs to find a way to prove that he can be around them whenever he wants instead of getting custody.
