Question of the Moment 67

How do you feel about ghosts? Do they excite you? Are you terrified of them? Do you actively go out looking for them or do you believe those are taboos? Or do you think they do not exist at all and that I just sound crazy? What exactly aren't your opinions on the subject matter of Ghosts?

I, personally, do believe that there is a paranormal realm out there. I don't believe in it full fledged (like I don't believe I have been abducted by aliens, or have once seen a vampire, or big foot, etc.,) but a small part of me believes that with it being such a popular topic that there has to be some truth to it. I'm not saying that everything paranormal must be real, but at least one aspect of paranormal must be real so yes I do believe in ghosts. This is a topic that I can easily believe is real. Tell me there are vampires or werewolves and I'll look at you quizzically, but tell me there are ghosts and I believe you. Ghosts interest me a lot. They do scare the crap out of me, but I still try and see signs and when I do "think" I heard something or saw a shadow move I'm deathly terrified lol.

So what are you opinions? Let me know in the comments below =]

BBReview: "Afterlife 1: Beyond" By Willow Rose

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal/Romance
Publishing Date: September 9th, 2011
Page Count: 267
Source: Sent to me by the author
Format: Paperback

Description from the Author:
Have you ever wondered where you go when you die?

Meghan is 16 when it happens to her. She wakes up on a flying steamboat on her way to a school run by Angels in a white marble castle. She meets Mick who helps her through a difficult time in a different world filled with heavenly magic. One day she finds a mirror in the cellar of the school and goes through it. She ends up back on earth where she meets Jason. But Jason is in danger and Meghan knows something important.
Soon she will have to choose between the two world.
The one she belongs to now, and the one she left.

Beyond is a YA Paranormal romance and the first book in Willow Rose's Afterlife-series.

Review:
I have to admit that i was a bit disappointed with Beyond in the beginning. It was a bit slow for my taste and i really wanted to like it, because the description sounds extremely good. Thankfully, once i got to chapter nine everything started to pick up. This is when you really start to dive into the story and really start reading the plot and main events that take place. So if you do decide to pick up this book bare with it and stick it out to chapter nine, because that is when it starts getting addicting. As soon as i got to that chapter i couldn't put it down, i had to finish it.

Chapter 9 and on is what gave this book the four stars. The story gets really interesting, really fast, and leaves you with a big cliff hanger. The characters, i felt, were really good. They all definitely had that child-like persona to them, though. They all seemed very innocent and naive, but it definitely fit this book. I usually do not like it when the characters are childish, but it worked really well here and i think if they acted older the story would have taken on a much darker tone. I really loved Meghan's character for the most part, but i didn't like how obviously depressed she would get at times only because i couldn't relate. She shut everyone out during these periods, and i couldn't imagine doing that in real life, or even in a book because then you don't know what is going on in the background with the other characters. My favorite character of all was Jason. He won this story for me. I just loved how sweet, yet brave, he was the entire time. My second favorite is definitely Mick, because hello he just sounds gorgeous, and then thirdly Meghan. Like i mentioned earlier i just couldn't relate as much to her as i would have liked so the boys ended up being my favorites.

The only other negative about Beyond, besides a slow start, is how fast everything happens. Once it gets going feelings start to develop like wildfire, and time goes speeding by. At one point a second love interest comes in Meghans life and i honestly have no idea how it even developed, because she barely spent time with him or talked about him. I knew it was going to happen from page one, but it was still shocking. Also something bad happens to one of the students and it seemed like it formed over night. Both of those negative things are very small though, and are easily shrugged off once you get into the story. The rest of the events that take place are way too interesting and addictingly readable to keep those blimps on your radar. The ending is amazing and i found my eyes watering up from the moment she goes through the mirror so be prepared. I cannot wait to find out what will happen next in this series.

Overall:
I did find Beyond to be a bit slow in the beginning, but once i got to chapter nine i fell in love with the book. It is also very fast paced and some events seem to happen too quickly, but i still really liked the story. I loved Jason and Mick's characters, and unfortunately Meghan's characters places third with me after the boys only because i found her hard to relate to. I did really like her at times, but some of the things she did just bugged me or i just couldn't imagine doing them myself. Overall really good story and i recommend it to YA paranormal readers under age 18. I feel like its a great book for that age category. And thanks to the amazing ending Willow Rose creates, i cannot wait to find out what will happen next with this series.

Question of the Moment 66

If there was someone that was in danger and you wanted to help them, but you would have to break MAJOR rules to do so, would you still do it?

I would say yes. If someone needed help, but i could get in trouble helping them i would still try and help without getting caught. I figure if I'm doing the right thing and I'm no doing anything bad, then if i get caught they would see in their hearts not to punish me, because i was doing an act of kindness. If they still punished me i wouldn't be ok with it, but at least i knew i was doing the right thing.

So what would you do? Would you break the rules to save someone? Let me know in the comments below =]

BBReview: "Seeker 1: Dark Seeker" By Taryn Browning

From Goodreads.com
Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal/Romance
Publishing Date: September 27th, 2011
Page Count: 298
Source: Sent to me by the author
Format: E-Book

Description from Goodreads.com:
For 17-year-old Seeker, Janie Grey, ridding the Baltimore streets of the undead is an inherited duty passed down from her Cherokee ancestors. Seeker Training Lesson #1: Never trust the undead. After her father's tragic death, Janie creates her own life lesson: Love isn't worth the risk. Both lessons are easy to follow until she encounters the flawed Kai Sterdam. At first, she believes he is the hybrid she is trained to hunt. But, when he has human traits, she determines she doesn't know what he is. As Janie's intrigue over who Kai is pushes her deeper into his mysterious past, she discovers a shocking truth that is even more harrowing than the evil they are up against. It's a secret Kai wants to keep hidden, especially from Janie.

Review:
Since it has been such a long time since i read the prequel to this story, Dark Beauty, i was a little confused at first, because the whole time i kept saying, "I don't remember them meeting like this. Isn't he supposed to be like this? What about this part?" Then i finally recalled my memory and found out THEY ARE ABOUT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE! lol Silly me! After i finally understood what was going on and moved past what happened in the prequel i was able to really dive in, and when i say dive in i mean head first, no fear, swimming as fast as i can.

Dark Seeker sucks you in and fast. This isn't a short novel, its about 300 pages in paperback, but it is so good that you read it so quickly. I didn't want to put it down once i started. If i didn't have classes to get to i would have finished it in one sitting, but due to having to be a responsible college student i had to put it down, get three hours of sleep, go to class and then come back and finish it. It is a shame how fast i read it, because i want to read more. It truly is THAT good of a story!

The characters are amazing. Janie is a very strong, stubborn, independent woman. She really is a great seeker and i love that she wasn't just a normal mortal with a ton of flaws and dependent. She is her own woman and doesn't take crap from anyone. Kai is a steaming bowl of hotness. He has the perfect personality for the "bad boy" that is smug, confident, and extremely gorgeous. I loved Kai and didn't think he had a single flaw. I wouldn't change anything about the characters. I felt that their relationship formed at a nice pace. It wasn't too fast and it wasn't too slow. I loved that Janie wasn't immediately smitten with him, like how most romances happen in other novels, she wanted to kill him most of the book and even when she realized she might start liking him she fought it hard. She didn't want to be the dependent needy girl that you hear about and i loved that!

I honestly don't know what else to say about this book without giving too much away. It was truly one of the best novels i have read and i cannot wait to find out what is going to happen next. The ending hits you hard so be prepared, i wouldn't change anything about it. It was a perfect ending and a perfect way to keep the audience along for the ride the entire time. Taryn knows how to keep her audience wanting more and knows exactly when to give it to them. Perfect pacing!

Overall:
I loved, loved, LOVED this novel. I cannot wait to read more from this series and i hope it never ends. This novel met all of my expectations. Taryn Browning is an amazing author and i will read anything by her from here on out. Dark Seeker has the perfect pacing for the story and the characters were amazing. Janie was an amazingly stubborn independent woman which i LOVE and i feel that independence is what everyone looks for in a female lead these days. I feel like Taryn knew exactly what her audience would want to happen and instead of just giving it to us she dangled it in front of our faces till the end. I recommend this to everyone who loves young adult paranormal and everyone who loves a good romance.

Question of the Moment 65

If you were taught your entire life to kill vampires "Night Children" and demon/vampire "Day Children" do you think you would ever be able to fall in love with one, or because of you have taught to kill them that you wouldn't even give them the chance to try and make you fall in love with them?

I think if there was one that i couldn't catch, was persistent in finding me, and didn't show any signs of wanting to harm me i think i would be able to fall in love with one. I would definitely be on guard the entire time, because i have been taught they are evil, but i am still a love sick girl lol. I would still definitely destroy the evil ones, though.

So what about yourself? Would you be able to fall in love with one? Let me know in the comments below =]

Follow Friday #18

This Weeks Follow Friday Question:
Fight! Fight! If you could have two fictional characters battle it out (preferably from books), who would they be and who do you think would win?

I think i would choose Kai from Taryn Browning's Seeker series and Edward from Stephenie Meyers Twilight. I choose these two, because they are both vampires with good fighting cred. and both are pretty smoking characters when it comes to looks. I personally think that Kai would win, because Edward doesn't go out looking for trouble, Kai is more of a "bad boy". Also Kai seems much stronger and faster than Edward.

BBReview: "Red Ridge Pack Series 1: Pack of Lies" By Sara Dailey and Staci Weber

From Goodreads.com
Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal
Publishing Date: April 8th, 2012
Page Count: 204
Source: Sent to me by Boroughs Publishing Group
Format: E-Book

Description from Goodreads.com:
The last thing Allison Wright ever expected when she moved to Red Ridge, New Mexico was to come muzzle to muzzle with the wolf of her dreams.

Seventeen-year-old Allison Wright is convinced she's losing her mind. Uncontrollable mood swings, hot flashes, and the urge to punch anyone who gets in her way are suddenly becoming everyday occurrences. Before her erratic behavior gets out of hand, Allison's mother finally comes clean about her dark secret. Mom is a werewolf, and soon Allison and her brother Aiden will suffer the same fate. When Allison reaches her breaking point, the family leaves their life in Texas to move to Red Ridge, New Mexico where they rejoin the pack that Allison's mother left behind almost 20 years ago.

Unfortunately, not everyone in Red Ridge is thrilled about Allison's arrival, especially when she attracts the attention of the very handsome, very taken, soon-to-be alpha, Cade Walker. Little does Allison know, her mere presence is causing a rift in a once unified pack. Not only has Cade been forbidden from being with Allison by his father, the pack's alpha, Cade's girlfriend, Kendall Stuart, will stop at nothing to get Allison out of the picture. Well on her way to becoming the next alpha's mate, Kendall expects to rule the pack by Cade's side even if it means teaming up with a rogue werewolf with an agenda of his own. Determined to get rid of Allison permanently, when Kendall and the rogue join forces, all hell breaks loose and no one in the pack is safe, especially not Cade and his true mate.

Review:
I really loved Allison's story from the get-go. The beginning started out perfectly and i loved everything that happened following up to the move. Such a great pre-story. I also really liked the way Allison and Aiden found out they were werewolves.

All of the characters were really great. I loved Allison, of course, and thought her brother was the perfect epitome of an older brother that everyone loves. Cade was fantastic and perfect in the romance department and Kendall was the perfect girl to hate. I absolutely despised her. Every time she would call Cade baby i wanted to barf. I loved all the romance that was involved, but i hated that Cade had to be with Kendall, she was just awful. I wish rogue werewolf would have stuck with one personality, because the bad boy personality he has with Kendall soon turned into a little bit of a good guy towards the end which really confused me.

I did like the ending and liked what happened to the bad guys, but i felt like it was a little too A happens and then B happens. I wish they would have dragged it out a little more or made it more thrilling. The very ending at the hospital was very good and i really liked the turn of events. I cannot wait to see what happens with Aiden in the next book, and i can't wait to read the next book to see where the story will take us and the chaaracters next.

Overall:
I really liked it. I wish there would have been either a little more romance or a little more action, but overall it was very good. I really like the characters and loved Allison and Cade's romance. I think this story was very well done and i cannot wait to see what will happen next in the second book. I recommend this to anyone who loves werewolves and romance.

Question of the Moment 64

How would you react if your mother told you that she was a werewolf and that soon you will become one too?

I wouldn't believe her at first, obviously, but then i would be super STOKED! I would be so excited if i found out i was a paranormal, especially a werewolf, because thats the only paranormal that my boyfriends thinks is cool *eye roll*. I would be so happy to be a werewolf. It would obviously be tough to get adjusted, but all in all i would be happy.

How would you feel about it? Let me know in the comments below =]

BBReview: "The New Girl Who Found a Dead Body" By Milda Harris

From Goodreads.com
Genre: Young Adult -Horror/Murder/Mystery
Publishing Date: July 11th, 2011
Page Count: 232
Source: Sent to me by the author
Format: E-Book

Description:
Chloe is excited about spending her senior year of high school in California with her friend Jake's family. Even the usual dread of being the new girl can't bring her down. That is, until she stumbles across the dead body of the most popular girl in school, Lora Kelly. Now she's receiving threatening notes...will she be next?

Everyone is a suspect. There's her childhood friend Jake, who she's known forever and there's his girlfriend, Kate, who is insanely jealous of any girl in Jake's vicinity. Or is it Grey, the mysterious, handsome, and arrogant rich boy who has a passion for photography and Chloe is already falling for? Chloe doesn't know who to trust and time is running out before the killer strikes again...

Review:
The New Girl Who Found a Dead Body was everything i expected it to be. It was such a fast paced thriller, i loved it! Milda Harris is such a great story teller that i could easily see everything that was described in my head, and you could easily feel the anticipation that Chloe was feeling. At one point i had to stop about half way through and was scared to walk through my house to get something to drink. Although there was a lot of scary, thriller moments there was enough subtle romance to balance it out. I really liked that the romance didn't over power the story. There was enough to make your heart swoon, but a small amount where you still remembered there was a killer on the loose and that that was the main focus. The story couldn't have gotten better.

The characters were awesome! Chloe was great, she was very upfront and went after whatever she wanted and definitely didn't have a filter. She was very courageous and knew what to do in high stress situations. She was the only one who was able to calm down and find a solution. She was definitely not your typical horror movie female lead who when being chased falls down. I was very thankful for this, because i was really scared that she would do something dumb and i would want to kill her, but that thought never crossed my mind. Kate was the perfect jealous girlfriend, she was mean and manipulative. Jake was an awesome best friend. He reminded me of a protective big brother and i loved it. Finally Grey, my favorite male character, was the perfect heart throb. I loved him very much.

I really loved the ending conclusion. It came out of nowhere and the killer was someone i never would have suspected. Very tricky Milda Harris! Even though you knew you were getting toward the end of the story you didn't know when you would find out who the killer is. Milda Harris waits till the very, very end to reveal it. I honestly thought it was going to turn into a series and that i would have to wait till the second book to find out who it was.

Overall:
I completely loved this story! I wouldn't change a single thing about it. The characters were great and the balance between romance and mystery was perfect. The romance didn't over power at all which i really loved. If you are looking for a good murder mystery this is definitely the choice for you, and dont worry you wont figure out who the killer is until its revealed, which i loved. Fantastic job Milda!

Question of the Moment 63

Do you think if your best friend was a murderer that you would be able to see the signs and figure it out?

I think i would be able to see a change in her and would be able to tell something was up, but i dont think i would be able to flat out believe that she was a murderer. I would probably fight for her and try to prove that she wasn't when really she was. And i think afterwards once they proved it was her i would realize all these other things and be like "Why didn't i realize all this?".

Do you think you would be able to tell? Let me know in the comments below =]

Review:
If you are like me then when you get obsessed with a series, or author, you look for everything you can to fill that void when you've finished the series or read all the books that authors written. You look for other authors like them, and any other book that even slightly resembles that series. This is how i even got started with being in love YA Paranormal. My cousin forced me to read Twilight and then i had to read every vampire book/series out there that would slightly remind me of it to fill the void since the series was over. Well, The Hunger Games is my new Twilight. I am completely obsessed and love it more than Twilight, but shhh! Don't tell anyone i said that. So, when Valerie sent me a request to review her unauthorized guide to The Hunger Games i jumped on it. I had to have more knowledge of the series, and had to have something to fill the void.
Katniss the Cattail is a great book if you obsessed with The Hunger Games. If you aren't then i wouldn't suggest it, because i feel you would end up getting bored and put it down about three pages in tops. This is for hardcore fans only. It is a just a guide so there aren't any extra things about The Hunger Games that Suzanne Collins decided to throw in to dazzle her fans with so don't be disappointed. I'm sure she might do that with the official guide, but definitely not with an unauthorized.
Although it isn't official, so Suzanne Collins had nothing to do with it, it is very good. Katniss the Cattail is very well researched. You can tell by the citing and just by the vast, not normally known, knowledge that has been written on these pages. Valerie definitely did her research and must be a devote fan. I loved all of her theories for everyone's names, and i loved that she didn't just research the name and put everything she could find, but she looked and wrote the research of the names that fit that character. Every piece of knowledge that she found it matched that character to a T.

Overall:
Katniss the Cattail was very well researched. Everything that Valerie found about the names and symbols through research was pinpoint correct and matched the characters personalities and how things were supposed to appear in the book. I learned a lot from it and learned possible new insights on what Collins meant when she had certain things happen in The Hunger Games. If you are not a devote, crazy, obsessed fan of The Hunger Games then unfortunately this guide is not for you.

Question of the Moment 62

When a series is over and is extremely popular do you like reading the "Official/Unofficial Guides to the series" or do you they are a waste of time?

When i finish a series that i really love i am obsessed and try to find and buy anything i can pertaining to that series or from that author, i get crazy. So, when an official or unofficial guide comes out i always buy them. I always find them interesting, sometimes boring, but i always buy them. I also think its better when the author does them, because then you know all the theories are 100% true to their original meanings, but its also cool to see what other readers/authors ideas were.

So what do you think about guides to series? Hate them or love them? Let me know in the comments below =]
