BBReview: "Spellbound Series 1: Beautifully Broken" By Sherry Soule

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal/Urban Fantasy
Publishing Date: August 30th, 2011
Page Count: 344
Source: Sent to me by the author
Format: E-Book

Description from Goodreads.com:
Thirteenth Daughter. Heritage witch. Demon slayer.

They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn't even begin to describe Whispering Pines. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch's curse...

Sixteen-year-old Shiloh Ravenwolf is a heritage witch from the Broussard family, a family both destined and cursed. After she takes a summer job at Ravenhurst Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That's where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan. But Trent may be the next victim on the supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him.

Complicated much?

After receiving cryptic messages from a creepy wraith, and then frightening threats from a demon, Shiloh finally begins to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist. Now Shiloh must decide how much she's willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.

Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.

Review:
Beautifully Broken is a very different book that i have read before. Through out the entire story you have so many questions as to who is all involved in the evil surrounding the town, and by the time it ends most are answered, but you still have tons more questions. It is also a very complicated story, because there is a lot of background information that you need to know about the different supernaturals. You really have to pay attention to get it all in your head in the right order. I really liked that this was a very dark novel. And yes I am using that seriously and as a pun =)

There wasn't a whole lot of happiness or "now everything is better in the end" or even good magic. It was all very dark and ominous. I liked that a lot. One thing I really liked a lot about the dark was the creatures that are in the dark. I loved the little shadow creatures. I honestly kept thinking of the little shadow guys from the video game Kingdom Hearts. Once Sherry explains what they are and who their loyalties lie to I loved them even more. As someone who is terrified of the dark I (for the most part) completely connected with Shiloh. I understood how she was so scared to be in the dark and seeing things that others can't (in my case its my mind playing tricks on me... hopefully!) and how she sucked it up, because it was her duty.

Lastly I liked how the romance was left in the ending. It could have been an insta-love thing, and it was really heading down that path, but I am glad they are still trying to understand each other. I think this was a very interesting story and definitely a much deeper story than I am used to. This really isn't one where you can read while super tired and be able to understand what just happen with only one read through, I think that is a good thing, though.

*SPOILERS*
My only problem with the romance is that I felt like maybe Sherry was trying too hard to make the readers point the finger at Trent for being the "bad guy" that she really left out a lot of parts where he could have won over a few votes with the ladies. I really wanted to either like him and be disappointed that his plot was to use Shiloh, or like him and be very weary of him but then it end up he's not the bad guy and I love him more. Neither of those things really happened. The whole time he was mostly a total douche to Shiloh and then the end he isn't the bad guy so everything is ok? I just wish there were more nice parts about Trent through out the story so I could have at least been happy when he wasn't the bad guy instead of feeling disappointed.
*END*

Overall:
I enjoyed reading Beautifully Broken. It was very different from what I am used to reading and very deep. You really got to pay attention while reading to understand everything that goes on, because a LOT goes on. I didn't like parts of the romance, because I wish there were more likable things about Trent. Overall he was kind of douche-y so I really like how the book ended. I loved how dark (literally) this world was and loved all the creatures. I will more than likely continue with this series and I recommend it for those who like things that go bump in the night.

Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 4/5

Top Ten Series I Have YET To Finish

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there will be a new topic for everyone to create a top ten list with.

This Weeks Topic:
Top Ten Series You Haven't Finished (because either you didn't like them, you just have procrastinated, etc.,)

All of my choices in this list are series I haven't finished from procrastination. Well... not really procrastination so much as I have too many review books to read to be able to read series books I buy myself.

*All images above have been linked to their goodreads page's for your enjoyment*

Question of the Moment 112

If you could see ghosts, and other scary things in the dark, would you be able to keep it from your best friend?

Absolutely not. I would not be able to keep something like that from my best friend. I would have to tell them. They are supposed to be there for me through thick and thin so if they are truly my best friend they would believe me, or at the very least support/accept me. Especially if I developed the power to see those things in the middle of our friendship. I would have to be like, "guess what I can see now!". She may say you are nuts, but I would have to tell her.

Would you be able to keep it a secret? Let me know in the comments below =]

BBReview: "Annie Loves Cham #1: Day of First Sun" By Sheryl Steines

Genre: Young Adult -Paranormal/Fantasy
Publishing Date: January 1st, 2011
Page Count: 308
Source: Sent to me by the author and publisher
Format: E-Book

Description from Goodreads.com:
When Princess Amelie of Amborix is murdered by magical means, Annie Pearce and Bobby "Cham" Chamsky of the Wizard's Guard are called in by the FBI. Their job is to help solve the crime while keeping the non-magical world from discovering the existence of the Wizard Council.

During their investigation, Annie and Cham discover that Princess Amelie's death is connected to a series of other crimes in the Chicago area. A larger plot involving, a vampire, a rogue wizard and an army of soul-less zombies is revealed, but can Annie and Cham discover who is responsible before The Day of First Sun?

Review:
I was honestly a little surprised with how much I liked this novel. I have never been one who is very big into books about wizards. For example I loved the Harry Potter movies, but I have only read the first book. I plan to finish reading the Harry Potter series, but I am in no rush. So, when I started getting really into The Day of First Sun I was a bit stunned.

The Day of First Sun is about a girl named Annie and her partner Cham who work for the magical government. A non-magical girl gets murdered by magical means and they have to investigate who/why it happened and keep the non-magical world from finding out about how magic was involved. It doesn't help that the victim is a princess from another country visiting America to cause good relations between the countries.

I will admit that the beginning was a tad bit slow to me. I really didn't get into it until Jordan was brought into the story and that was when I got sucked in. The only other negative thing I can say about this book is there are (at least only in the copy I received) a few typos. Not a lot, but a couple here and there. Everything else, though, was great. I really loved Annie and Cham's characters. They really were the perfect partners and friends. They knew what each other needed without the other having to say so and they had this easy flow about them where they could work without having to tell the other what to do. Annie has had a little bit of a troubled past and isn't one to easily open up or care about others. She is extremely nice and caring, but not to everyone. She really has to trust you to let you in, even to let you in a little bit. Cham is just the perfect guy. He is so protective and caring, and perceptive. He is always there for Annie without questioning anything.

The Day of First Sun is also VERY action-packed. There are a lot of different creatures, people, and places in the magical world. It was so interesting to hear about a world SO different from my own. Although I do love romanticizing vampires, it was very cool to see them in their "true" light in this novel. They weren't friendly, handsome, sparkly things; They were pale, manipulative, mean killers. I don't know how to describe this novel without giving away anything about the book so I will finish by saying that it is a really great magical read. It has magic, romance, sadness, action, crime-fighting, and mystery. It is a well rounded novel and I highly suggest it to those who love magic.

Overall:
I really ended up liking this book. I have never been one who was extremely into the magic genre of novels, but this was really well done. There is honestly something for everyone in The Day of First Sun, because it was so well rounded with tons of different genre's packed in. There is romance, action, crime fighting, paranormal, fantasy, and mystery elements all weaved together. The beginning was a little slow to me, but only for a few pages. I would say about 15% of the way in tops is when it finally grabbed me. I really loved Annie and Cham's characters and really think they were very well done. I recommend this to those who are into magical books, or those who don't know if they are into magical books.

Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 4/5

{Cover Reveal} "Opal" by Jennifer L. Armentrout

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger... and they know it.

Follow Friday #34

This Weeks Follow Friday Question:
What book WAS worth all the fuss?

I would probably have to say Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I heard SOOOO much about this book and every single person absolutely loved it. I honestly thought it was too good to be true, but it really was worth all the buzz. I completely adore this series and am so happy I have finally read it. This novel is the exact reason why I listen and follow the buzz, because if I didn't I honestly would have never picked this novel up. Aliens just didn't seem like my cup of tea.

Top Ten Bookish People I Want To Meet

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week there will be a new topic for everyone to create a top ten list with.

This Weeks Topic:
Top Ten Bookish People You Want To Meet (Authors, Bloggers, etc.,)

*in no particular order what so ever*

1. Thomas Amo
This is the man to thank over me reading adult novels. Before it was all YA all the time, because when I had tried adults in the past they were all dry and boring. After reading his novel, though, I was forced to give adult a second chance and have found a lot of novels I really, really love. It would be awesome to finally meet this super awesome author!

2. C.A. Kunz
Such an amazing mother-son duo. These two are seriously the nicest people in the entire world and I really hope that one day I can make it to one of their signings, because I know it would make both of our days to finally meet each other.

3. Tamara Rose Blodgett
Tamara's Death series is the first book I have ever won and then reviewed. She is another SUPER nice author, email all the time and usually just talk about what is going on in each others lives. I would love it if I could visit Alaska again and this time meet Tamara.

4. Lori @ Pure Imagination
Lori's blog was one of the first blogs I began following and I really set the bar for what it means to be a great blogger based on her. She is one of my blogger idols.

5. Ashley @ Step into Fiction
I absolutely freaking love this chick. She is my Hillbilly sister =F and everyone knows it. I have not had the pleasure to finally meeting Ashley, but when I do I am sure it will be filled with laughter and fun. This girl is absolutely amazing and I am so happy to have her as a friend!

6. Suzanne Collins
Hello! She is the author of the Hunger Games trilogy. Who wouldn't want to meet her.

7. Stephenie Meyer
Again, Twilight, people. Even if you didn't like the saga at all, I am sure if you found out she was in town and you were in the area you would probably stop by just to see how she acted.

8. Sarah Rees Brennan
This is a new author I am in love with, but I know I have to read everything by her from now on. I would love to meet the mastermind behind such an amazing book, Unspoken.

9. Daniel Waters
Zombie Romance! Yea I have yet to read a book that came anywhere near close in likeness to Daniel's Generation Dead series. He is seriously the coolest person and I would LOVE to meet him.

10. Melissa De La Cruz
Last, but certainly, certainly not least would be the woman you all know I am in love with and know that I would jump and die at the chance of meeting her. She is my number one favorite author and I would love to finally meet her and get her autograph in person. She once tweeted me back and I about had a heart attack!

Question of the Moment 111

If you were aloud to learn and use one magical spell, what would it be?

EASY! Since I am so extremely lazy I would pick the levitation spell where you can make anything you want move at the wave of your hand. Examples opening up doors, brining food and drinks to you, picking up an animal and helping them on the bed, etc., lmao I would love it if I didn't have to get up to bring stuff to me. You have no idea how scatter brained I can get and will have to get up to grab things 500 times, because I forget them the other 499 times I got up. It is so frustrating and if I knew this spell my life wouldn't be so hard lol.

So what spell would you pick? Let me know in the comments below =]

{Cover Reveal} "Aurora Sky" By Nikki Jefford

Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter (Vol. 1, Transfusion)
a new YA paranormal series by Nikki Jefford

Releases this Winter Holiday Season 2012

Synopsis:
Her blood is toxic to vampires.

If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it's to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn't hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Secret agents step in and save Aurora's life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter. In Alaska.

Basically she's a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job... by hand.

Aurora is alienating friends at school while attracting attention from the last person she wants noticing her - the dark prince of temptation himself: Fane Donado. And that can't lead to anything good.

This is a YA-Mature title for ages 16 and up.

One Last Parting Bite:
No books considered for review this week. I did get requests and I did answer yes to some for next year so I am just waiting to hear back on them and then I will share or I am still waiting to get a copy of them to show you that way. The two books that I got for the kindle were FREE and are prequels to Sarah Rees Brennan's newest series. I am so friggen excited to read these!! This weeks posts were shorter than supposed to by two posts. It was my first full week of college courses so I was a tad busy so I had to cut out a review, because I haven't finished reading it yet, and then I couldn't think of anything for Top Ten Tuesday so I just didn't do that this week. This coming up week is a little shorter than usual, because so far I only have one review planned so I hope I end up liking the book lmao. For posts from this past week you NEED to go check out my reviews of Unspoken and Eternal. They are AMAZING! Unspoken is YA and Eternal is Adult =) This coming up week check out my review of Day of First Sun and enter the giveaway for DiSemblance. It has been a pretty busy week with school and all, but so far I am getting A's thats a great thing, right!? The only thing is I am still figuring out how to add reading time into the mix. So far its only weekends I have to read and that isn't cutting it lol. Till next week!

Thanks for checking out my Sunday Post! Hope you check in again next week =D

BBReview: "A Holloway Pack Story 0.5: Eternal" By J.A. Belfield

Genre: Adult -Paranormal/Romance/Historical Fiction
Publishing Date: July 2nd, 2012
Page Count: 100
Source: Sent to me by the publisher
Format: E-Book

Description from Goodreads.com:
An unmarried woman living in a house of men breeds hearsay and lore. If only the villagers knew the truth.

It's not Jem Stonehouse's marital status that brings unwanted strangers to town. Rather, it's that she is the only female werewolf in existence -- a prize to any pack.

Sean Holloway, the love of Jem's life, has gone to great lengths to protect her. As a new attack becomes imminent, Sean realizes he must take greater measures with Jem's safety or risk losing her forever. His first task must be to marry her, but a force greater than the largest werewolf stands in his way.

Her mother.

Review:
I am utterly and completely in love with this series and all I have read is one prequel and two teaser chapters from book one. You all know that I am not usually reading adult, and that I am a HUGE YA fan, but this adult prequel has me hooked! The romance in Eternal is breath taking, butterfly fluttering, and serious blush causing. The best part? The blush causing romance starts on page one. Imagine my surprise! lol. The sigh inducing romance is also pretty great. Jem and Sean are an amazing couple.

Jem was turned into a werewolf. You would think "no big deal," but she is the only female werewolf in existence. All other females who have tried to be turned have ended up dead. Jem's existence causes a big stir for outsiders to come to her town and try and claim her to their pack, so she must move in with the love of her life, Sean, and his pack. The other problem is that Jem is from a town of humans where an unwed woman living with men is more than just frowned on, its blasphemy. Sean has to do everything he can in order to keep Jem safe and his newest idea on how to do that is making her an honest woman of the community; marry her.

Jem and Sean are adorable together. There seriously isn't a time when you're not rooting for them to make it. There is a little bit of a love triangle, but it is unwelcomed from Jem so it's not really a love triangle, but someone else definitely wants her for himself. Point is there are no teams in this book to pick. Trust me, there is only Team Sean. The rest of the characters that Belfield creates are flawless. There are a few that we get to know more than the others, but still they are all overall very well done. Usually prequels are too short for most, but I feel like this story was very, very well done in the short amount of time it is told. I felt pretty content with everything by the time the story ended. Of course I wanted there to be even more story told, but overall I am perfectly fine with the shortness of this prequel. I feel like there wasn't anything missing to it. The story came full circle and now it's time for me to read the rest of the books in this series.

With that in mind I need to read the rest of the books in the series... there is a sneak peak to book one with the first two chapters at the end of Eternal and I am completely hooked and obsessed. A lot was packed into those two short chapters and if Belfield can do such an amazing job with only 100 pages I can't even imagine what she can do with 412.

Overall:
Love, love, LOVED this prequel. Eternal is a beautiful paranormal-romance/historical fiction. I think it was beautifully executed and will make you drool for more. Jem and Sean are perfect together and have a really cute relationship that every girl dreams of having. The other characters that Belfield created are also all very well done and don't blend in with the background, they stand out. Even though Eternal is a prequel I feel like it wasn't too short and told the story it needed to tell perfectly. Beware, if you read this prequel you are going to want to read the entire series so get your bank accounts prepared lmao. I will absolutely be continuing on with this series!

Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ 5/5
