"Under Loch and Cay" By Jenny Peterson
I said it last time when I reviews Prom Dates to Die For and I will say it again Jenny Peterson needs to make this a full length novel series. Her story about a girl who through her bloodline is a paranormal creature hunter is awesome. I cannot get enough of it and it was definitely a great story to start the book with. I really hope that she either does make it into a full length series or they come out with another anthology including her and two of my other favorite authors from these anthologies and have them continue their stories. I was so happy when I read that due to popular demand Jenny Peterson was asked to continue her short story from Prom Dates to Die For. It is an amazing story and I definitely want to read more about Rachel, Kendra, and Sidney.
"Arach War" By Lena Brown
Arach War was an ok story. It definitely didn't grip me, but it did keep my attention long enough for me to get through it. I do think that greek mythology is very interesting and I think this story would have been a lot better if it wasn't so PG. It was just targeted for a younger audience than what I am used to so it didn't take a hold of me and not let go.
"Through a Glass Darkly" By Heather Dearly
This story definitely needs to be one that continues on in the next set of anthologies. I love the whole helping people cross over thing and this story definitely had my full attention. It also has a very adorable ending to it so I really want to read more from Heather.
"Mermania" By Kelly Parra
Kelly is the other author who was asked by popular demand to continue her story from Prom Fates to Die For and I couldn't be more ecstatic. This is my favorite story from the book just like last time. I really want this idea to be made into a series as well. Kelly just has a very unique writing style that just completely captures a teenage girls feelings and sucks in the reader. I love that it is about a teenage monster hunting duo. The chemistry between them is awesome and I just want to keep reading about them.
"Midnight Troll" By Mari Hestekin
Midnight Troll was another alright story. I definitely know there is an audience out there for trolls, but I am just not a part of that clique. I don't know what it is, but I just don't like trolls. They are just one of the paranormals that just doesn't interest me to read about at all. Besides the fact that trolls were in the story I did like it. I think they killed off one of the characters a little too soon, because he was an important character. He was special to each of the main characters, but they all just kind of acted like it was no big deal. It was very odd to say the least. Overall the story just wasn't my thing, but I definitely know there are people out there who would really like it.
"Spectral Media" By Aaron Smith
Aaron is more of a science fiction writer, and I am not a science fiction reader so needless to say me and his stories don't really mesh well. Spectral Media is a good story it just isn't for me. I think the overall concept was a pretty good idea if you are into science fiction and are able to buy the concept for the sake of the story, but I can just never believe it long enough for some reason. The idea of a computer demon ruining lives is a pretty scary thought, though. With how much people use technology it is definitely possible if computer demons were real.
Overall:
These authors really out did themselves. They brought even more to the table this time around. I absolutely loved that Kelly Parra and Jenny Peterson continued their short stories form Prom Dates to Die For and I really hope they continue them on some more and hopefully one day make them into a full length novel series. I think the overall layout of the stories, in terms of story order, was excellently executed. They placed them very smartly and I totally agree with it. I have always been one who thought short stories were too short (haha), but these anthologies are really making me reconsider my love/hate relationship with short stories. I absolutely adore them now.
