Description from Goodreads.com:
Everyone knows how all those fairy tales go. The princess gets beautiful, nabs her prince, falls instantly in love, lives happily ever after and leaves her evil stepsisters in the dust.

But what happens when you’re the ugly stepsister and your obnoxiously perfect—read pretty, smart, and, worst of all, sickeningly nice—stepsister is dating the charming, tall, devastatingly handsome guy you've had a thing for since you were nine years old?

Quirky, artistic and snarky Mattie Lowe does not lead a charmed life. Her mother is constantly belittling her on Skype. Mercedes, the school mean girl, has made it her personal mission to torment Mattie. But worst of all? Her stepsister Ella is the most beautiful, popular girl in school and is dating Mattie’s secret longtime crush, Jake Kingston.

Tired of being left out and done with waiting for her own stupid fairy godmother to show up, Mattie decides to change her life. She’ll start by running for senior class president against wildly popular Jake.

Ella can keep her Prince Annoying. Mattie’s going to rule the school.

And no one, not even a cute and suddenly flirty Jake, is going to stop her.

Review:
The tale of The Ugly Stepsister Strikes Back is not what I expected going into it at all. I really thought this was going to be a book where Ella turns out to be a mean girl who is purposefully and actively going out of her way to ruin Mattie's life. This wasn't the case at all and I am really happy, because you soon realize that all the reasons Mattie has for hating Ella are petty, and kinda out of jealousy. I was pretty happy when the story quickly turns from being Mattie Vs. Ella to Mattie Vs. Jake.

This was a very cute and whimsical story. It was also written very well and I couldn't stop reading till the end. I absolutely loved all the pop culture and movie references that are thrown in, especially the Pretty in Pink and Pride & Prejudice reference's as they are two of my favorite movies.

The ending was everything I hoped for and more. I really needed a good, light hearted contemp. to change things up in my reading. I was really in the mood to just not have to think through complex storylines and just get wooed, and thats exactly what this story did for me.

I really can't wait to read the next book Sariah Wilson is working on because it is all about Ella! Throughout the book Ella is only "awful" for about 1 chapter, maybe. Behind the scenes she leads a very busy life and I can just tell there is a good story behind it all. I wanted to hear her side of the story the whole time and wondered why we didn't, but luckily at the end there is an authors note from Sariah and she said an Ella book is coming! I can't wait!

Overall:
This was a really great read, but very tame. It was the perfect book for the mood I was in as I really needed a break from all my complex YA paranormals. It was cute, fun, and left me feeling happy and content. It didn't have my blood boiling or get my addicted, so I have to say this book is great, just not amazing. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a cute, light hearted contemp to read.
